Artist Statement for Mauricio Robalino

When I make a drawing and it satisfies me I make a painting.
When the painting satisfies me I make a collage.
When the collage satisfies me I build a sculpture.
When the sculpture satisfies me I make two drawings…

My art is a celebration of life which expresses a deep love for vibrant
color, dynamic composition and inspired whimsy which is stimulated and nurtured
by my interest in the arts of all times and cultures, especially those of Native
America, the Mediterranean, Tibetan mandalas, Indonesian puppets, and the
germinal art movements of the early twentieth century. At the core of my
artistic expression is an organic creative process, which generates surprising
drawings with bold, flowing, and spontaneous lines. I am grateful that my
passionate, meticulous, and spontaneous approach to art making has allowed me to
discover a very personal style, which brings joy and inspiration to viewers of
all ages and cultures. I look forward to the wonderful opportunities and
creative challenges, which emerge when happy individuals are invited to discover
never before seen art to embellish and elevate everyday life.

My experiences of making art are an interesting contrast between dedicated
hard work and feelings of joy in freedom and discovery. Therefore, art making
becomes a very clear reflection and contemplation of my life experience and so
when I create art I work to discover a piece rather than to finish one. That is
why it often takes me many months or even years to complete a drawing, painting,
collage, sculpture or mosaic.

My art experiences have prompted me to explore the spiritual philosophies of
many cultures from around the world and from history. It is these studies
together with my native biological intuition, which lead me to give my mythical
art beings human characteristics.

I am grateful to be so fortunate as to experience this expanding sense of
being through my art and I hope that other beings may also experience this sense
of well being from viewing my work.
